Power generation at the Kariba South Hydropower Station is projected to triple to about 750 megawatts (MW) in 2026 following a significant recovery in Lake Kariba's water levels, a development expected to ease load-shedding and stabilise electricity supplies across Zimbabwe.
Kariba South is currently generating about 250MW, slightly above last year's average output, which was severely constrained by the El Niño-induced drought - the worst to hit southern Africa in more than 40 years.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Power Development, Yeukai Simbanegavi, pushed for this investment in Abuh Dhabi at IRENA. IRENA is supporting countries worldwide in their transition to a sustainable energy future. US $ 4 Billion represent about 4 000 MW of installed electric power capacity.

Under its climate change cluster, Mutapa Investment Fund aims to install solar power in the long run, reinforcing commitment to transitioning towards renewable energy sources and reducing carbon footprint. It is not clear, how ambitious their plans are.They take account of, as they say, "that we are indirectly involved in potential negative climate impacts through our investee companies, ...".

Hwange power plant to be refurbished from Q I in 2026.

The Hwange plant has been in a bad condition for years. From the beginning of this it is going to be refurbished with estimatede cost of US $ 450 Mio. After refurbishment 500 MW of additional power will be unlocked, 400 MW of them within the next 48 months. The upgrade follows a government's rehabilitate, operate and transfer (ROT) concession agreement with Jindal Steel and Power (see Wikipedia), which will inject the investment costs into the project.
